Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu in South China for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com October 17 news, modular notebook computer manufacturer Framework recently launched its refurbished product program. Framework claims that this proves that it respects the commitment of mankind and the planet and minimizes waste by encouraging a circular economy. At the beginning of the program, North American customers had the option of three refurbished Framework DIY laptops and a refurbished expansion card bag.

There are three "DIY version" devices supported by the 11th generation Intel Core Tiger Lake mobile processor in the Framework store. The cheapest models are powered by Intel Core i5-1135G7 processors, but "bare metal"-no memory, storage, Wi-Fi modules, or even power. You also have to install your own operating system. The refurbished machine costs $600 (about 4338 yuan) and saves $80 (about 578 yuan), and the same new model requires the same parts / extensions to make it a useful laptop. Framework also offers Intel Core i7-1165G7 models for $800 (5784 yuan) and Core i7-1185G7 models (also bare metal) for $1069 (7729 yuan).

Most of these SKU are products that are returned under Framework's 30-day return guarantee. These devices have also undergone an "extensive testing and cleaning process" and are not prone to DOA failures. CTOnews.com has been informed that if the refurbished product has any defects in appearance, any superficial marks, etc., these details will be explained on the product sales page.

Framework also has a refurbished expansion card package. These should be essential for anyone who buys a "DIY" laptop, whether it's a refurbishment or an entirely new device. The expansion card package supports two USB-C, one USB-A, and one HDMI card. In all the refurbished products it sells, notebooks and expansion cards are fully guaranteed by buyers for one year.

Framework has not yet extended its refurbishment plan to other markets it operates (i.e., Europe and Australia, etc.) because there is not enough return to provide sufficient inventory.

Earlier this year, Framework launched Intel Alder Lake upgrade kits for its laptops for Linux, which are compatible with these refurbished products. However, during the Alder Lake lifecycle phase, users need to consider whether to spend more than $500 to upgrade. However, there are many other expansion cards on the market to choose from to customize laptops to better meet the needs of users.
