CTOnews.com October 17 news, a few days ago, the High-tech Industry Research Institute (GGII) released a group of reports, it is expected that China's decommissioned power batteries accumulate 137.4GWh in 2025, and the output value of echelon utilization and recycling is expected to exceed 100 billion.

The High-tech Industry Research Institute (GGII) predicts that the capacity of waste batteries to be recycled in China will reach 960000 tons in 2025, and the renewable resources of lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese through recycling power batteries in 2025 account for 27.7%, 55.5%, 28.7% and 47.9% of the corresponding demand, respectively.

CCTV Finance reported in August that data showed that by the end of June 2022, the number of new energy vehicles nationwide had reached 10.01 million. At present, the power batteries on the first batch of new energy vehicles in China have ushered in the tide of decommissioning. At present, there are two ways for the recycling mode of decommissioned power batteries: echelon utilization and recycling to extract raw materials. The former is to disassemble and reorganize the decommissioned power battery and apply it to areas such as energy storage that do not require high energy density of the battery, while the latter is to extract expensive metal materials such as cobalt, nickel and lithium from scrapped batteries.

CTOnews.com learned that in terms of echelon utilization, in August last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other departments jointly issued a management method for the echelon utilization of power batteries for new energy vehicles, proposing that the power batteries of new energy vehicles generally still have 70 to 80 per cent of the remaining capacity after retirement, which can be downgraded for scenarios such as energy storage and power reserve to maximize the utilization of surplus energy.

Earlier, Huang Libin, director of the Energy Saving and Comprehensive Utilization Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, revealed that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is exploring the formation of a number of new business models such as "echelon batteries for rent and sale" and "waste for raw materials." the next step will speed up the introduction of national standards and industry standards for the recycling of power batteries. In terms of data, more than 10,000 new energy vehicle power battery recycling service outlets have been built in China, and new energy vehicle owners can query the nearest recycling network information and standardize the transfer of retired batteries.
