"shipments in the global smartwatch market increased from 8.6 million in the second quarter of 2018 to 12.3 million in the second quarter of 2019."
According to the latest report from Strategy Analytics, the growth in global smartwatch shipments in the second quarter of 2019 is impressive compared to the second quarter of 2018. During this period, global shipments of smartwatches increased by 44%, reaching 12.3 million units in the second quarter of 2019. In the same quarter last year, about 8.6 million smartwatches were sold worldwide. The smartwatch market is currently dominated by apple, with a market share of about 46%. Not surprisingly, it is the market leader here because its Apple Watch is one of the best-selling smartwatches.
In the second quarter of 2019, Apple shipped about 5.7 million smartwatches worldwide. In the same quarter last year, the company shipped 3.8 million units, with a market share of 44 per cent. The Apple Watch is the top-selling smartwatch with a huge lead. It succeeded in stopping competition. In second place, Samsung shipped about 2 million smartwatches worldwide in the second quarter of 2019, but that number should increase with the launch of the new Galaxy Watch Active 2.

Samsung's shipments more than doubled compared with the second quarter of 2018. In the same quarter last year, the South Korean giant shipped only about 900000 smartwatches. Its current global market share of smartwatches is 16 per cent, up from 11 per cent last year. The company has successfully improved the smartwatch ecosystem by improving software and better design.
Fitbit, in third place, successfully sold about 1.2 million smartwatches in the second quarter of 2019. However, sales fell compared with the second quarter of 2018, when about 1.3 million smartwatches and fitness belts were sold. Fitbit currently accounts for about 10 per cent of the global smartwatch market. Last year, its market share was 15%. Other players such as Garmin and Fossil are introducing new models with better features. Competition intensifies and Fitbit is in a difficult period. Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Huawei / Honor are also watching the market share of Fitbit. In general, consumers are more likely to buy smartwatches and fitness belts that go hand in hand with smartphones.
