CTOnews.com, Oct. 16, Canonical last week launched a free Ubuntu Pro for individual and small business users that can be installed on five machines for 10 years.

In order to promote the new Ubuntu version, Canonical started advertising to other Ubuntu users and even put ads on the terminal, according to The Register.

According to feedback from Ubuntu users on sites such as Reddit, Mastodon and AskUbuntu, Ubuntu Pro ads pop up when you use the apt command to update.

CTOnews.com learned that a Canonical spokesman told The Register: "this is a news element that Canonicals uses to share relevant information in the user's apt output. Nevertheless, we are pleased to receive feedback and intend to develop a single-command way to disable the news, which can be banned in apt output."

The main advantage of Ubuntu Pro over standard distributions is the constant provision of security patches. Canonical claims that Ubuntu Pro extends the security coverage of critical, advanced, and intermediate CVE (common vulnerabilities and exposures) to thousands of applications and tool chains, including Ansible, Apache Tomcat, Apache Zookeeper, Docker, Drupal, Nagios, Node.js, phpMyAdmin, Puppet, PowerDNS, Python 2, Redis, Rust, WordPress, and so on.
