CTOnews.com, October 16. Earlier this month, Microsoft released Edge browser 106for all Windows 11 and Windows 10 users of stable channels. In addition to some general changes in the release notes, the latest version of Microsoft's browser focuses more on adding some additional feature enhancements to the built-in efficiency model.

Microsoft introduced efficiency mode in Edge browser version 101. Microsoft says this gives users an extra 25 minutes of battery life (average), and recent browser efficiency tests have shown that efficiency mode does allow computers to last longer. Now, Microsoft Edge has better power-saving tools.

CTOnews.com has learned that efficiency modes can help minimize power usage by conserving computer resources (benefits may vary depending on device, application, and personal browser habits). If the sleep tab is open, put the background tab to sleep after 5 minutes or less of inactivity. It may cause the video to become unsmooth, and the animation can be slowed down when the user does not interact with the browser.

Edge 106provides several additional options for its efficiency mode. The browser uses the "balance Power Save" option by default, which takes reasonable steps to save power without significant deceleration. When the user's device enters power-saving mode (Windows) or reaches 20% power (Mac), which leads to worse performance and poor experience, browsers will take more aggressive measures.

Users can also select the maximum Power Saving option. In this mode, Edge applies all possible energy-saving measures in exchange for battery life at speed.

Another noteworthy change in Microsoft Edge 106is the option for power saving mode when connected to a power supply. This ensures that users' devices consume less energy to reduce carbon emissions, similar to Windows Update's attempt to be greener and "green".

Microsoft said the updated efficiency model in Edge 106is currently being rolled out to customers, so it may take a few more days for the feature to reach more users' computers.
