CTOnews.com, October 16 (Xinhua)-- there is another problem with Microsoft's Windows 11 and AMD Ryzen processors. As soon as 21H2, the 11th version of Windows, was released to the public last year, problems related to CPPC2 were discovered. These problems were later fixed by chip driver updates.

Now, with the recent release of Windows 11 version 22H2, new problems are emerging that are plaguing the Ryzen 7000 series CPU based on Zen 4 architecture. CapFrameX (CFX) found that when a single CCD (CPU compute chip) of the 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X is activated, the configuration can exceed the default dual CCD 7950X. Each Zen 4 CCD has eight cores and their cache, so in essence, an eight-core Zen 4 CPU can beat a higher number of 16-core models.

To better understand the problem and evaluate the situation affecting it, CFX decided to test two other cases where synchronous multithreading (SMT) was disabled. Therefore, when single CCD for SMT is disabled, 7950X with 16 cores and 32 threads is now simplified to CPU with 8 cores and 8 threads.

As in the case of a single CCD, shutting down SMT produces a similar result, showing better performance with fewer threads.

This doesn't seem to be an isolated case, either, because hardware benchmark Hardware Unboxed (HBU) noticed a similar problem on their RTX 4090 test system. And it is clear that this has happened more frequently these days.

CTOnews.com learned that this performance problem seems to be common on Windows 11 22H2, and on the face of it, it seems that Windows 11 22H2 has a scheduler problem on the new Ryzen 7000 CPU, which is why more threads are not working. But it could also be similar to the recent Nvidia driver error Bug. Perhaps the GPU driver itself does not take advantage of the extra threads correctly.
