Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, October 15, AMD, the latest generation of EPYC Xiaolong processor "Genoa" lineup and benchmark results have been leaked, showing us far more than the previous generation of "Milan" and Intel Xeon performance improvement.

The AMD EPYC will be divided into three series, the standard EPYC model is Genoa based on Zen 4, the Zen 4C "Bergamo" with emphasis on computing density optimization, and the Genoa-X series with V-Cache cache optimization based on Zen 4.

In addition, the series will also introduce a cheaper entry-level server chip, the "Siena". The server will use the same Zen 4 core architecture, but will use the new SP6 platform, focusing on TCO optimization compared to SP5.

The performance benchmark results of AMD's next-generation EPYC Genoa CPU series have been leaked, revealing the capabilities of the next-generation Zen 4 server CPU.

The standard Zen 4 processor will be equipped with up to 12 CCD, up to 96 cores and 192 threads, and each CCD will be equipped with 32 MB of L3 cache and per core 1MB L2 cache.

The EPYC 9004 CPU will contain the latest instruction sets, such as BFLOAT16, VNNU, AVX-512 (256b data path), 57b / 52b addressable memory, newer IOD and internal AMD Gen3 Infinity Fabric architectures, and higher bandwidth (die-to-die interconnect mode).

The platform will support 12 DDR5 channels, support 4800Mbps DIMM, and include 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 interleaving options. RDIMM and 3DS RDIMM support 2 DIMM per channel with up to 6 TB capacity per slot (using 256 GB 3DS RDIMM).

The 2P platform will also provide 160x PCIe 5 channels, 12 PCIe 3 channels (only 8 on 1P), 32 SATA channels, and 64 IO channels supporting CXL 1.1 +, with forks as low as x4 and SDCI (intelligent data cache injection).

In terms of performance, the leaked run meter shows the SPEC2017 integer (basic) performance of 14 chips in the AMD EPYC Genoa series, with at least five chips scoring more than 1000 points, while the rest are also competitive in the mid-range and entry-level markets.

CTOnews.com learned that all benchmarking was done on a 2P (two-slot) platform, so it used two chips. (photo source: Moore's Law is Dead):

The table also includes data comparison between Intel Ice Lake-SP Xeon flagship processor Platinum 8380 and AMD's previous generation flagship EPYC Milan 7763 chip.

The 96-core AMD EPYC 9654 CPU runs more than double that of the EPYC Milan, while providing about 1.7 times the performance per watt of the Milan, but up to 2.6 times that of Intel.

"Intel expects to further lose market share to AMD by 2023, with the goal of returning to growth by 2025."
