The Kirin 9000 chip was released by Huawei on October 22, 2020, and the first model is the Huawei Mate 40 series.

As the industry's first 5nm 5G SoC, Kirin 9000 is strong for all to see.

In terms of specifications, the CPU architecture uses one 3.13GHz A77 core, three 2.54GHz A77 cores and four 2.04GHz A55 small cores, while the GPU architecture uses 24-core Mali-G78.

The number of transistors reached 15.3 billion, 30% more than the Apple A14 released in the same year. Such a luxurious specification gives good performance.

Although Kylin 9000 does not perform well in high-load scenarios.

However, thanks to the excellent energy consumption ratio, it is considerable in low-and medium-load games and daily use.

After all, everything has become abnormal, the imaginary results are worthless, and Kirin resumes iteration by no means overnight.

In fact, not only the Kirin 9000, which is forced to carry feelings, but also the Kirin chip itself is of great significance.

For users, it is the most eye-catching focus; for Huawei, it is the soul that drives mobile phones forward; for the country, it is the leader of domestic mobile phone processors.

Whether you are a user of Huawei's mobile phone or not, you can't deny the energy contained in Kirin.

Roughly speaking, the development of Kirin chip has gone through more than a decade.

In 2004, Hayes Semiconductor was officially established. In the early days of its establishment, the business was to design chips for devices such as switches, but not to develop smartphone chips.

It wasn't until 2009 that it launched its first mobile phone chip, K3V1, and released its iterative version, K3V2, three years later.

I don't know how many old guys have used mobile phones with these two chips, and people who must have used them didn't stop cursing at that time.

The K3V1 and K3V2 chips, as predecessors of Kirin, can be rated as "notorious":

Backward manufacturing process, slow loading, explosive power consumption, serious heating. Who uses it and who cares.

Due to the performance of Qualcomm Snapdragon, Samsung Orion, Texas Instruments hoisted for three years, so also like to mention the title of "crane tail".

Huawei has been using K3V2 for as long as three years, and at one point, "Hai Si is everlasting, K3V2 will last forever!" Such a joke.

And Huawei's high-end series, the D series, was cut after two generations because of K3V2's hip-pulling performance.

At the end of the same year, Huawei released the high-end masterpiece Mate 7, which is equipped with Kirin 925 chip.

As an upgrade to Kirin 920, it continues to adopt the industry-leading 8-core big.LITTLE architecture, increases the frequency of large cores and integrates a coprocessor named "i3".

Yu Zai remembers that at the overseas press conference of Mate 7, Yu Chengdong, who was a little immature at that time, paced nervously back and forth on the stage.

But when it comes to the Kirin 925 chip, it becomes calm and confident in words and deeds.

Then the release of Kirin 950 at the end of 2015 represents Kirin to a new level.

Kirin 950 is the industry's first SoC using 16nm process, which is the first time that Chinese manufacturers have stood on the forefront of semiconductor technology.

At the same time, the self-developed ISP engine is integrated for the first time to achieve a breakthrough in imaging.

In other words, the performance of GPU has dragged down slightly, and the overall performance is remarkable. Coupled with a time lag, it has been leading Qualcomm 820 in the running score list for a long time.

The later Kirin 960 and Kirin 970 also made obvious improvements: the former improved the performance of GPU and made up for its shortcomings, while the latter integrated self-developed NPU to become the first artificial intelligence mobile computing platform.

But the disadvantage can not be ignored: the former process stays in 16nm, while the latter produces more heat.

At that time, many people thought that Kirin was in a bottleneck, but with the advent of Kirin 980, doubts dissipated.

With regard to the situation of Kirin 980, Yu Tsai will not repeat it too much, but to sum it up briefly:

With the blessing of it and a series of cool techs, Huawei's Mate 20 series is known as the "Android King".

Huawei has successfully gained a foothold in the high-end market and become one of the "imperial three".

In addition, there are two supporting evidence to highlight the strength of Kirin 980.

One is in the Apple 11 launch, in the introduction of the chip, Kirin 980 as a comparison object.

Despite being compared to the "laggard", it also indirectly proves that Kirin has got Apple's attention.

The other is that in July this year, Kirin 980 was collected by the National Museum.

The fact that it can be included in the collection of the National Museum shows that the country is sure of its value.

If Kirin was the pursuer before 980 and basically equal in the 980 generation, then in the 990 generation, it has partially surpassed.

Kirin 9905G, in particular, announced that Kirin has become a leader in 5G.

Kirin 9905G not only adopts the advanced process of 7nm + EUV, but also integrates Barone 5000 5G chip, which is the first 5G SoC in the industry to support NSA / SA dual architecture and TDD / FDD full band.

Although from the paper point of view, the improvement of 990 compared to 980 is not as big as that of 970-980.

But just integrating 5G is a big deal, like a qualitative change from 0 to 1.

And then there is the most familiar Kylin 9000. Although it is the pinnacle, it has also become a masterpiece.

Looking back on the course of Kirin, it is not plain sailing. From the early disaster to the middle backwardness, it has suffered endless ridicule and blow.

Fortunately, Kirin never stopped the pace of progress, one step at a time to develop, gradually supporting up.

Unfortunately, at a time when there should have been broader prospects, it was hampered by a ban.

As for when Kirin will return, no one knows the exact answer.

It is impractical to pin our hopes on the United States to let go. We can only expect the domestic industry to achieve a breakthrough and get rid of the situation of being stuck in the neck.
