Its two major brands, Hyundai and Kia, have launched a number of electric vehicles, and Hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles are also being exported in large quantities. Environmentally friendly vehicles such as electric vehicles have also become important export commodities in South Korea.

According to the latest September data released by South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, South Korea's environmentally friendly car exports were worth 1.41 billion US dollars in September, up 35.1% from a year earlier, maintaining the momentum of year-on-year growth for 21 consecutive months.

Driven by a year-on-year increase in exports of environmentally friendly cars, South Korean car exports rose to $4.79 billion in September, the highest export value ever and the second highest, second only to $5.14 billion in July this year. Exports of environmentally friendly cars were worth $1.47 billion in July, the highest so far.

According to the published data, environmentally friendly cars accounted for 29.4% of the value of South Korean car exports in September, the same as in August.
