Last year, there were rumors that Intel wanted to enter the PC independent graphics card market. A number of products have also been launched one after another, such as the A380 graphics card previously evaluated by CTOnews.com and the notebook with A770m. Just last week, Intel finally released two products with good performance: Intel sharp A770 + A750, targeting the middle and high end of the market.

CTOnews.com received two graphics cards, Intel Ruixuan A770 16G and A7508G, in advance. In this article, we will conduct a detailed test to see the effectiveness of Intel's large-scale attack on the independent graphics card market. The following is the test platform:

The appearance design of the dazzling A750 and A770 graphics cards is quite low-key, the whole is wrapped in the same black plastic, almost no exposed heat pipes are seen, and the sense of integration is very strong.

Ruixuan A770 due to the positioning of more high-end, so more than a circle of RGB backlight strip, in addition, the fan part also has RGB lights, can be customized through the software control.

The front of the sharp A770 and A750 graphics cards is more like a notebook than a graphics card, and the black striped paint feels warm and moist to the touch. The small print "Limited Edition" is printed on the right, which is the unique design of the top version of the 16G public edition A770.

The Ruixuan A770 and A750 use a standard double-slot design with good chassis compatibility. In terms of heat dissipation, it is designed for dual fans, which is enough for such a TDP less than 200W graphics card.

The video interface is still standard with 3 DP 2.0 and 1 HDMI 2.1, which is currently the most high-end configuration and can support up to 8K video output.

In terms of power supply, both cards are for 8+6pin, which can meet the power demand of 225W at most.

The interface is the standard PCIe Gen 4.0x16. It is worth mentioning that the motherboard must support the Resizable BAR function in order to fully release the full performance of the sharp graphics card.

The above is the exterior design of Intel sharp A770 and A750, which can be said to be full of calmness and low profile. But the A770 RGB light belt gives it a different cool, compact design is also deep in my heart.

Architecture Analysis Intel Ruixuan A series products are all based on Xe HPG architecture, including a powerful AI engine and enhanced media engine. A new Xe display engine and a new graphics pipeline are introduced to handle a variety of display tasks. Every four Xe cores make up a render slice, and each Xe kernel is equipped with a considerable number of computing units, such as vector engine XVE and matrix engine XMX. In addition, Xe HPG also integrates other mainstream graphics technologies, such as mesh shading, sampler feedback, etc., and its corresponding hardware support can be found in rendering slices.

The most important thing in Intel's Xe HPG architecture is the Xe Vector vector engine, which is to provide a dedicated execution port for floating-point computing (FP). Intel has improved ALU (arithmetic logic unit). This allows the FP instruction to run at the same time as the integer operation (INT) instruction, including the fast INT8 calculation of DP4a.

As for the overall structure of Ruixuan GPU's Xe-core, you can take a look at the following floor plan provided by Intel. Different sharp GPU may vary in the number of computing units, but the general structure is the same.

The basic specifications of the graphics card are as follows. The default power consumption of Ruixuan A750 and A770 is 225W, but the system is limited to 190W by default. If necessary, it can be filled up manually in the control panel, but we will test it at the default power consumption in this article.

Theoretical performance, of course, what we are most concerned about is the core performance of the A770 and A750. So let's start with a stress test. After 10 minutes in the grill, the two graphics cards are stable at about 190W, and the temperature is also at 72-74 ℃, very close.

Let's run 3DMark's theoretical score again, and then compare it with dessert cards at the same price. To my surprise, intel has been marking the dessert card RTX 3060 at the press conference, but in fact its theoretical score is on a par with RTX 3070. And unlike our previous stereotype of "DX12 is strong and DX11 is short", the traditional DX11 performance of A770 and A750 is not poor.

It is worth mentioning that intel's independent graphics card also supports XeSS supersampling technology, which is similar to DLSS / FSR, which uses AI for super-resolution and image synthesis to achieve high-performance and high-fidelity vision, up to two times the number of frames. Compared with the previous game library when we tested A380, now XeSS's game library is much larger. I hope to adapt to more games as soon as possible.

In addition, 3DMark now provides BenchMark for XeSS. From which we can directly see that XeSS has greatly improved the number of game frames.

In different gears, the increase in the number of frames brought by XeSS ranges from 50% to 130%, and the effect is quite obvious. And because of the principle of AI scaling, the loss of picture quality is not great. If you turn on the balance gear at 2K resolution, you will be completely OK.

From the above tests, it can be seen that the performance of Ruixuan A770 and A750 has reached or even exceeded the definition of dessert card. And interestingly, the performance gap between the Ruixuan A770 and the A750 is not very large. If it is only for the performance of the game, then the A750 is very good, and the advantage of the A770 is the super large memory of 16G.

According to the actual measurement of the game, can the A770 and A750 continue to run points in the game? Will you encounter driver compatibility problems? Let's first test several new games that support XeSS technology, and then compare several popular traditional games. The whole test will be carried out at the highest resolution of 2560 to 1440.

First of all, there is an exploding ghost game "Ghost Line: Tokyo", which can be called a hardware killer. There are only more than 30 frames after turning on light pursuit at 2K resolution, but we can use XeSS technology to render at a lower resolution, and then zoom in to a high resolution to double the number of frames.

It is measured that the number of XeSS frames in different gears is improved uniformly, and the balance gear is turned on at 2K resolution, and both graphics cards can play light pursuit for 60 frames.

Next, we test a domestic online game "against the cold", which is very radical in screen technology, which also supports ray tracing and brings better picture quality. At the same time, the impact on the number of frames is also very large, without XeSS, there are only more than 30 frames, if you turn on the XeSS of the balanced gear, you can double the number of frames, and the 2K60 frame light can play "against the cold".

There is also support for ray tracing and XeSS technology in another Japanese chess game, the Magic Chronicle.

In the Chronicle of the Magic Collar, you can play 2K60 frames fluently without XeSS, but when you turn on XeSS, you can challenge higher resolution and higher refresh rate, and the game experience is significantly improved.

Finally, please run the evergreen tree "Tomb Raider: shadow", this classic 3A is also adapted to XeSS technology, it is indeed very rare.

When XeSS is not enabled, the excellent raster performance of A770 and A750 can satisfy 2K high-definition smooth play, and after turning on XeSS, the number of frames has also increased to a certain extent, but the increase is not as obvious as that of the above games.

It seems that with the help of XeSS, A770 and A750 can easily achieve skyrocketing frame rate. So in traditional games that do not support XeSS, can their raster performance stand the test? Let's first test the BenchMark of "CS:GO". The measured number of A770 frames reaches 268, the number of A750 reaches 258, which is very smooth.

In PUBG, the average frame number of A770 under extreme special effects is 120 frames, while that of A750 is 100 frames, so it's easy to have fun and eat chicken.

As can be seen from the test results, Ruixuan A770 and A750 can be said to be sweet-grade graphics cards of a 2K game, and their performance in XeSS is even more amazing, which can be played at a high frame rate with 2K light chase. In games that do not support XeSS and light chase, their raster performance is not bad, so they can be used as the main game graphics card. But what is interesting is that the difference in the number of frames between the two is not big, basically around 5%. For pure game players, the A750 can already meet the demand. And the productivity group may also need the blessing of 16G large memory.

AV1 coding AV1 coding is an important technology of Intel bet. We are familiar with video encoders such as H.264, H.265, AVC and so on, but these encoders can no longer adapt to the era of explosive growth of video. We are in urgent need of a video coding technology with higher compression ratio. AV1 came into being. As a representative of a low-cost and efficient codec scheme, AV1 is 50% higher than the most common H.264 codec and 20% higher than HEVC, so it can provide higher quality images with lower bandwidth and smaller files. And AV1 is a completely open codec without any licensing fees, so it has the advantage of low cost, and its industry prospect is very considerable.

For Intel, Ruixuan GPU has been endowed with a certain attribute of video productivity because it provides hardware support to AV1 in the first place. For example, two popular video apps, Davinci and Wanxing Meow Ying, have already provided support for AV1 video coding of the Ruixuan A770.

When you export a 1-minute 8K60 frame demo, it takes only 29 seconds to render. In this process, A770 is fully loaded and fully utilized. It takes more than 3 minutes if GPU acceleration is not used, which seems to be of great help to AV1 video rendering.

Wanxing Meow Ying also provides support for AV1 coding.

Through the test, we can see that A770 can provide more efficient GPU acceleration support when AV1 coding, which can greatly shorten the coding time and bring significant efficiency improvement for content creators.

AI performance artificial intelligence AI is another major feature of the key layout of Intel. Thanks to the XMX matrix engine, it has AI computing power beyond price and can cover the most common AI data types such as BF16 and INT8, which makes it possible for sharp graphics cards, especially the A770 with large graphics memory, to play a role in AI applications.

Here we use the software Topaz Video Enhance AI to test the AI magnification of the video. We first use Topaz Gigapixel AI to improve the resolution of several pieces of teaching materials by 4 times. During the test, we tested the time-consuming of Ruixuan GPU acceleration and CPU-only state, respectively. The test results are as follows:

↑ A770 AI acceleration takes 2 minutes and 31 seconds

↑ pure CPU calculation takes 28 minutes and 42 seconds.

Through the test, we can see that the advantage of AI acceleration is very significant, the gap is 10 times to more. So if you have a need for AI-based picture and video applications, you can try a combination of hardware and software such as Ruixuan graphics card + Topaz AI.

It is concluded that the GPU market has been dominated by red and green companies for many years, and there is an urgent need for fresh blood to introduce competition, and this time the Intel Ruixuan A770 and A750 we tested are indeed quite competitive. From the point of view of the physical score of the graphics card, the traditional DX11 performance of Ruixuan A770 surpasses the performance of RTX 3060TiMagol DX12 and even surpasses RTX 3070, while Ruixuan A750 also has similar performance to RTX 3060Ti. For a graphics card priced at 3199 yuan and 2499 yuan, the price is reasonable.
