Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Beijing, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) Linette Lopez, a senior reporter for Business Insider in the United States, wrote on Thursday that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (Mark Zuckerberg) was powerless and it was time to resign.
The following is a summary of Lopez's article:
Zuckerberg should resign. He should step down as Meta CEO and let someone else run Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram. Then he should use his huge wealth and venture capitalists to start a startup to realize his meta-universe vision.
I think this is the only way for Zuckerberg to save his empire, not to mention the best action for society.
On Tuesday, we saw another clear sign that Zuckerberg needs to resign. Meta hosted the "Meta Connect" conference, which, in theory, is designed to showcase the cool stuff that Meta developers have done in meta-universe. These demonstrations are supposed to convince people that meta-universe is where they want to go and that Zuckerberg's huge investment in new technology is worth it.
Breakthrough in meta-universe: two legs, but what exactly did he announce at the conference to convince those of us who are tired of the Internet that the $1500 headset that connects us to meta-universe is worth it? The answer is two legs! The legs of the avatar! You got two legs! You have long legs! Yes, the big news of this conference is that Zuckerberg's avatar on the meta-cosmic platform now has legs, which used to be just a floating torso. Zuckerberg was so excited about the legs that he jumped for joy when talking about the legs. I think his avatar can jump now.
Zuckerberg's avatar has legs. I wish the rest of the world were as excited as Zuckerberg. Last year, Meta spent $10 billion to develop meta-universe, but with little success. The company said in February that only 300000 users a month logged on to its metaspace app Horizon World, which is negligible compared with 2.9 billion Facebook users. Now, Wall Street is clearly looking at the project with skepticism: Meta's shares have fallen about 60 per cent so far this year.
Zuckerberg already has two very profitable platforms: Facebook and Instagram, but their popularity is declining. Facebook's user base shrank for the first time at the end of last year. The eyeballs of young people on both platforms are taken away by TikTok, and the eyeballs of older users are taken away by mental health awareness (meaning Facebook is harmful to physical and mental health).
Solving this problem requires focus, innovation and hard work, but Zuckerberg doesn't seem interested. Therefore, he should leave the job to someone who is more committed and capable, and bring his meta-universe show to the entrepreneurial world.
Learn from Microsoft and Google founder Meta is now facing the most difficult business resistance since the company was founded. The economy is likely to suffer a global recession for the first time since Facebook went public in 2012. Rising interest rates and a stronger dollar are squeezing technology companies' profits. Apple's privacy measures limit the ability of Facebook and Instagram to collect user information, a change that is expected to cost Meta $10 billion in advertising revenue this year. This has sent Meta's business into a panic mode: the company is said to be preparing to "quietly lay off staff" and cancel some internships.
All of these issues require Zuckerberg to focus heavily on improving the company's flagship products, repairing its public image and showing investors that the company's business can survive the coming economic turmoil. However, Zuckerberg is not focused on the present. Instead, he focused on the future of Meta. In a period of rapid development, a visionary leader is great, but Meta needs a leader who can see the company with a clear eye, not someone who carries the founder's emotional baggage.
If Bill Gates is determined to leave Microsoft, or Larry Page and Sergey Brin can realise that the time is ripe for Google to be handed over to someone else, Zuckerberg should opt out, too.
Use startups to play meta-universe if Zuckerberg likes micromanagement, then startups are his best choice. He can spin off the meta-universe app Horizon World and seek venture capital from all his billionaire friends. The founders of many other large technology companies have started passionate projects outside their original companies, such as Page and Brin, Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and Uber founder Travis Kalanick. By privatizing the company's meta-universe business, Zuckerberg can build his new world in invisible mode.
In all Zuckerberg's talk about meta-universe, there is a hidden possibility that he thinks Facebook and Instagram can no longer be saved, leaving them to die like an old hotmail.com email address, which is full of spam, stuffed with outdated information, and not even worth reading. Perhaps he thinks that if they are no longer popular, these platforms will be too cumbersome to manage. Maybe Zuckerberg doesn't want to log on to Facebook and Instagram anymore, because what he needs to do to save these platforms is not what he likes to do.
But if that's the case, he should resign.
