DigiTimes reports that iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus sales are being overshadowed by users '"enthusiasm" for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

If sales of Apple's iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are "flat" in the short term, Apple is said to be likely to cut parts orders in late October. If Apple cuts orders more aggressively than expected, total shipments of the iPhone 14 by the end of the year will be even worse than the iPhone 13 series at the same time last year. Apple expects to produce about 90 million new iPhones by the second half of 2022, but that number could fall to 80 million due to "depressed demand," research suggests.

CTOnews.com has learned that there have been multiple reports that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have not met Apple's sales expectations. Tianfeng International analyst Guo Mingxi said that user demand for the two devices was "lacking," and the pre-order results were worse than the third-generation iPhone SE and iPhone 13 mini. He even claimed that "Apple's product segmentation strategy for standard models failed this year," and Apple is believed to have shelved plans to increase production of these two devices.

Display analyst Ross Young said that iPhone 14 panel orders fell 38% compared to the iPhone 13 in the same period last year, while in the used market, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus depreciated twice as fast as last year's iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13.

On the other hand, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max reportedly continue to see high demand. Apple has shifted production capacity from the non-Pro series to the Pro series, as evidenced by an increase in component shipments, the report said.
