CTOnews.com October 13 news, today, TSMC held a law meeting, announced the third quarter financial data and fourth quarter outlook.

In the third quarter of this year, TSMC had revenues of $20.23 billion (about 145.049 billion yuan), a gross profit margin of 60.4% and a net operating margin of 50.6%, according to the financial report. During the reporting period, TSMC shipments of 5 nm accounted for 28% of total wafer revenue, 26% of total wafer revenue, and 26% of total wafer revenue, and more advanced processes accounted for 54% of total wafer revenue.

TSMC expects revenue of about $19.9 billion (about 142.683 billion yuan) to $20.7 billion (about 148.419 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter of this year, which translates to an average month-on-month increase of 0.4 percent, and gross and net profit margins will remain high compared with the third quarter.

According to the Kuiheng website, Wei Zhe-Jia, president of TSMC, said at the legal meeting that customer demand for 3nm has exceeded TSMC's supply, and production will be full next year, in part because of the continuous machine delivery time. 3nm is expected to account for about 4-6 per cent of revenue next year.

"TSMC is working closely with equipment suppliers to prepare more capacity for the 3nm process to support strong customer demand next year, 2024 and in the future," Mr Wei said. In addition, with regard to the progress of the 2nm process, he revealed that everything is going well or even better than expected, so TSMC is still expected to produce in 2025.

For the 3nm family, current intelligence shows that due to the delay and cost performance of the basic version of N3, Apple and Intel will directly consider the iterative version of 3nm N3E process, so Apple iPhone 15 Pro series will use the A17 chip built by TSMC N3E.

CTOnews.com has reported that TSMC has previously announced that it aims to mass-produce its N2 process by 2025. Unlike the 3nm series, the 2nm family will use the Gate-all-around FETs (GAAFET) transistor scheme, as well as the new nanosheet technology.

According to TSMC, the 2nm will have a 10 to 15 per cent performance improvement over the 3nm process and can reduce power consumption by 25 to 30 per cent. The N2 process is expected to be ready for risky production by the end of 2024 and enter mass production by the end of 2025, while customers will receive the first chips by 2026.
