Analysts say Samsung Electronics may benefit from production cuts by memory chip makers in the long run

October 13 news, under the influence of the dual decline in demand for memory chips and prices, some chip manufacturers have begun to cut production and future investment. Meixia has begun to cut production this month. Micron has also decided to cut capital expenditure for the 2023 fiscal year up to the end of September next year.

For a number of memory chip manufacturers to cut production and investment, TrendForce analysts believe that in the long run, Samsung Electronics, the world's largest memory chip maker, may benefit from it.

Analysts believe that Samsung Electronics may benefit in the long run in two ways: first, cutting production will help accelerate the balance between supply and demand in the memory chip market and stabilize prices; second, production cuts and investment cuts are expected to affect competitors' mass production plans based on the next generation of process products.

Foreign media reported that Samsung Electronics plans to accelerate mass production of advanced storage products from next year. Their fifth generation 10nm DRAM is scheduled to start mass production next year, and the 9th generation NAND flash memory is planned to be mass produced in 2024.

Although a number of memory chip makers have cut production or investment, Samsung Electronics does not seem to have plans to do so.

Foreign media reported earlier this week that Han Jin-man, executive vice president and global head of marketing for Samsung Electronics' memory business, revealed at a meeting in San Jose, California that they had no internal discussion on reducing memory chip production, and that they believed that production should not be artificially reduced, and that they would work to ensure that there was neither a long-term shortage nor oversupply of chips on the market.
