CTOnews.com October 13 news, today, TSMC held a law meeting, announced the third quarter financial data and fourth quarter outlook. Due to the slowing down of 7nm process demand, the 7nm process planning of TSMC Kaohsiung Plant will be slightly adjusted, while 28nm will be carried out according to schedule.

At today's online corporate briefing, Wei Zhijia, president of TSMC, said that due to the weak end markets such as smartphones and personal computers, as well as delays in customer product progress, 7nm and 6nm capacity utilization is likely to decline and may continue into the first half of 2023.

As inventory in the semiconductor supply chain will take several quarters to rebalance to a healthier level, demand for 7nm and 6nm is expected to pick up in the second half of 2023, and TSMC has adjusted its capital expenditure accordingly, Mr. Wei said.

CTOnews.com learned that TSMC's Kaohsiung plant was originally planned for two plants with 7nm and 28nm processes. Wei Zhe Jia said that the 28nm part will progress according to schedule, while 7nm will be slightly adjusted.

In the third quarter of this year, TSMC had revenues of $20.23 billion (about 145.049 billion yuan), a gross profit margin of 60.4% and a net operating margin of 50.6%, according to the financial report. During the reporting period, TSMC shipments of 5 nm accounted for 28% of total wafer revenue, 26% of total wafer revenue, and 26% of total wafer revenue, and more advanced processes accounted for 54% of total wafer revenue.

TSMC expects revenue of about $19.9 billion (about 142.683 billion yuan) to $20.7 billion (about 148.419 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter of this year, which translates to an average month-on-month increase of 0.4 percent, and gross and net profit margins will remain high compared with the third quarter.
