After installing the iOS 16 update, you can no longer use AirPlay to project streaming content from your iPhone to Apple TV (photos are not affected), and this only affects second-and third-generation Apple TV released in 2010 and 2012.

As iCreate points out, this setting seems to mainly affect content that is restricted by DRM, but it includes almost all current streaming services, including Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, Hulu, and so on. CTOnews.com learned that on Reddit, many second-generation Apple TV and third-generation Apple TV users have had a heated discussion about this issue.

If you try to AirPlay movies or TV shows from one of these services to Apple TV 2 or Apple TV 3, you will see a vague error warning: "error loading this content. Try again later." However, users testing with iOS 15.7 devices found that AirPlay is still applicable to Apple TV 2 and Apple TV 3, even if it is the content of the above DRM restrictions.

Similarly, many services have gradually abandoned support for their old Apple TV in recent months, including YouTube, CBS All Access, Crunchyroll, and MLB At Bat. It is worth mentioning that when these apps were disabled, these companies pointed out that users could use AirPlay as a solution, but now, with the advent of iOS 16, this has completely blocked the way for regular users to watch TV.

But the good news is that the third-generation Apple TV released in 2016 still supports the service. But in any case, Apple quietly withdrew support for key features such as AirPlay, and users said they seemed to have lost something, which seemed to be a disappointment for them.
