CTOnews.com, Oct. 12, JetBrains announced the release of a public preview version of its next-generation IDE, Fleet, which will be available for free during the public preview and is now available for download.

According to reports, JetBrains Fleet is built from scratch on the basis of 20 years of IDE development experience, using IntelliJ code processing engine, distributed IDE architecture and redesigned UI.

When a user starts Fleet for the first time, it starts as a full-featured editor with syntax highlighting, simple code completion, and all the features that users expect from an editor.

Fleet is also a full-featured IDE with intelligent completion, refactoring, navigation, debugging, and all the functions that have always existed in IDE. More importantly, all of these functions are available at the click of a button.

Fleet is suitable for multilingual developers who usually use different technologies in different projects, and sometimes in a single project. With Fleet, users no longer need to open different IDE to get the functionality required by a particular technology.

Fleet currently supports Python, Java, JavaScript, C #, PHP, TypeScript, Go, Kotlin and Rust. Officials plan to add out-of-the-box support for more languages, including C++, Ruby and so on.

Fleet is a distributed Fleet that is built from scratch to meet the needs of developers who do not necessarily work on local projects. Because Fleet has a distributed architecture, it doesn't matter whether the project is local, in a container, or in a country thousands of miles away. Fleet uses a virtual file system, and users can use Fleet to process projects in the same way locally and remotely.

JetBrains said Fleet will not replace the existing JetBrains IDE and is still studying the licensing and pricing of Fleet. Fleet will be a commercial product sold on a subscription basis, similar to other IDE of JetBrains.
