On the evening of October 12, Beijing time, it is reported that Microsoft's "industrial meta-universe" plan is taking shape, that is, using "meta-universe" to add fun to mundane applications in factories and other industrial environments.

Last week, Microsoft announced within the company the formation of a new team called Industrial Metverse Core,IMC, which plans to help customers create immersive software interfaces to control the industrial control systems behind power plants, industrial robots and transportation networks.

The products the team will provide to industrial customers will include technology from Bonsai, a start-up acquired by Microsoft in 2018. Bonsai is developing a common application development service and simulation software that non-coders can use to add machine learning to industrial systems, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Since last year, Microsoft has been talking about different ways to enter the meta-universe. As we all know, Meta is the first major technology company to launch Meta Universe. In Meta's vision, meta-universe is a 3D online world that consumers can navigate through increasingly powerful virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) devices.

Microsoft's vision of "industrial meta-universe" is slightly different. Like Meta, Microsoft believes that professionals will use this technology to interact with the project. But Microsoft believes that more often, people will use this technology to monitor the machine and factory environment. For example, aircraft mechanics can check the car engine through the simulation software environment provided by AR and VR head display to determine if maintenance is needed.

The IMC team is supported by Satya Satya Nadella, Microsoft chairman and CEO, and other Microsoft executives, according to people familiar with the matter. Microsoft also recently appointed a head of the IMC team, Mark Hammond, a former CEO and co-founder of Bonsai.

In addition, Eric Eric Traut, a technical researcher at Microsoft's Business artificial Intelligence team (Business AI), has been appointed head of engineering and science for the IMC team. Harald Winkman (Harald Winkmann), chief operating officer (COO) of the business artificial intelligence team, will also join the IMC team in charge of product planning. Both reported to Hammond.

The IMC team led by Hammond will report to Corey Sanders. Sanders has worked at Microsoft for 18 years and is vice president of Microsoft's industrial cloud and global expansion team. IMC will work with customers in healthcare, retail, financial services, energy and manufacturing.
