CTOnews.com, October 12, India finally launched a 5G network service this month. However, 5G signals in India are currently limited to a few cities and regions, and even in these areas, most Apple and Samsung smartphones do not have access to the 5G network.

To put it simply, although these phones have the hardware needed to connect to the 5G network, they lack software support. To access the 5G network, smartphones need to make a final software OTA update. The Indian government is currently in talks with all major smartphone brands to support these software updates as soon as possible.

Samsung India revealed that it has partnered with Indian network operators (Airtel, Jio and Vi) to test it and will release the required OTA updates in mid-November 2022.

A Samsung spokesman said: "Samsung has taken the lead in developing 5G technology since 2009 and has played a leading role in global 5G technology standardization. In India, Samsung has the broadest lineup of 5G devices. We are working with operator partners to launch OTA updates on all 5G devices by mid-November 2022, so that Indian consumers can experience 5G seamlessly."

CTOnews.com has reported that Airtel has launched 5G services in some areas of eight Indian cities, while Reliance Jio has opened 5G networks in four cities. Although all three leading network operators have access to the spectrum required by the mmWave 5G, their services are currently mainly concentrated in the if.

It is worth mentioning that Reliance Jio is the only operator that can use low-frequency 5G. The company said it would be the only brand in India to offer SA (independent networking) 5G services, while other brands would provide 5G networks through NSA technology. It is worth noting that Airtel is using devices from Samsung Networks for 5G network deployment.

"sources say Apple will provide 5G network support for iPhone in India in December."
