CTOnews.com, October 12 (Xinhua)-- Google announced the closure of its cloud gaming service Stadia at the end of last month, and now the company has announced the launch of Chromebook for cloud games made by different manufacturers.

Google said it had teamed up with Acer, Asustek and Lenovo to launch the first Chromebook designed for cloud games, specifically Acer Chromebook 516 GE, Asustek Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip and Lenovo Ideapad Gaming Chromebook. These laptops have a lot of game-related hardware, including a high-resolution display with a refresh rate of 120Hz or above, support for Wi-Fi 6 or 6e, high-quality audio, and a RGB keyboard with anti-key collision.

Google also works with cloud gaming services such as Nvidia GeForce Now, Microsoft Xbox Cloud Games and Amazon Luna to bring some well-known games to users. In addition, the company has partnered with Acer, Pirate ship, HyperX, Lenovo and Sirui to make certified peripherals "in partnership with Chromebook" for these devices.

Google said that all cloud game Chromebook has been independently tested and verified by the game performance test platform GameBench to ensure that they have a consistent and smooth gaming experience: 120 frames per second with a latency of less than 85 milliseconds.

"We have worked with Nvidia to bring support for GeForce NOW's highest performance RTX 3080 level to the cloud game Chromebook, so you can stream games such as Fortnite, Cyberpunk 2077 and Island crisis 3 remake at a resolution of up to 1600p and 120 frames per second," Google said. " GeForce Now will be pre-installed on the above devices, and buyers will receive a free RTX 3080 subscription service for three months. Xbox cloud games work on these devices through an installable web application that can play games such as Horizon 5, death, Flight Simulator, and can be accessed through Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. Buyers in the United States will also receive a three-month subscription to Amazon's Luna gaming service, including works such as Ghost crying 5 and biochemical Evil 2 and 3.

The Chrome OS team has also introduced a new feature for these new Chromebook that allows users to find GeForce Now and Google Play games directly from the search bar, which can be accessed through buttons in the lower left corner, and the company aims to add more services to the search function in the future. These laptops also have a feature that can quickly jump to Slack to answer important information and pin cloud gaming services to the taskbar for quick access.

Google says the Chromebook is for people who can set aside a few minutes to a few hours a day to play games, and can also be used as a daily work machine. Google also admits that Chromebook is largely seen by the outside world as a cheap machine for work and education, not really for games. Google is trying to bring some kind of gaming experience to all Chromebook, supporting platforms such as Steam, and testing the keyboard control features of Android games. However, Chromebook is still far from achieving the host experience.

Obviously, Google likes to be a platform for others to build on. In this program, Google only plays a role as a distributor of Chrome OS, laptop makers make hardware, third-party cloud services bring games, and accessories manufacturers make peripherals.
