CTOnews.com, October 12 (Xinhua)-- Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled a new roadmap to convert all cars (gasoline and electric) of its brands (Hyundai / Genisays / Kia) into "software-defined vehicles" (SDVs) by 2025, following the "start of the Software era" global forum.
To support this blueprint, the group promised to invest 18 trillion won (about 90.18 billion yuan) to establish a new global software center, thereby speeding up the development of SDV.
Hyundai Motor Group has promised to sell only software-defined cars (SDV) by 2025, which means that its Hyundai, Genisse and Kia brands will only sell OTA-enabled cars. In future OTA updates, the new car will also provide improvements in connectivity, convenience and safety.
In addition, Hyundai plans to introduce subscription features (FoD), which consumers may buy directly. It is said that FoD is considering developing an L3 autopilot system. At the same time, the G90 will acquire the technology as a stand-alone option by the end of this year, first in South Korea, then in the United States, Europe and China.
Hyundai Motor Group also announced two new electric platforms, eM and eS, which will be released in 2025. The former will increase mileage by 50% and will support OTA updates and L3 autopilot systems.
Hyundai says it recognized this many years ago and has been working behind the scenes to ensure that its current and future car lineup of all brands remains not only functional but also technically relevant.
CTOnews.com learned that OTA functions are very common for most automakers at present, but most of these functions are very limited. For example, many cars can only simply update their infotainment systems or even update navigation maps. At present, only a few new energy vehicle companies, such as Tesla and Wei Xiaoli, focus on software functions, and users can constantly obtain software and firmware updates through OTA. So as to improve the function and performance of the car all the time.
The core content of Hyundai's presentation today is the connection and transition to software-defined cars. According to reports, software-defined cars can not only be remotely upgraded (OTA), but also provide personalized services, security and even software subscriptions for car owners as part of the cutting-edge automotive telecommunications world.
Hyundai can then use this car data for future mobile applications such as Purpose Built Vehicles, Advanced Air mobility, robotic taxis and even highly intelligent robots.
By 2025, Hyundai hopes to transform every car to adapt to the new category of software-defined cars. According to the press release, all new cars of the Hyundai Group from 2023 will be equipped with OTA features and will include all HMG vehicles, not just electric vehicles.
Hyundai says it expects 20 million people worldwide to sign up for its online vehicle service (CCS) by 2025.
To support this ambitious software definition solution, Hyundai Group has developed five plans, the equivalent of a "software house", as the foundation / foundation for a new era of mobile. The five key points are:

Hyundai said that compared with current electric vehicles, electric vehicles will have a 50% increase in mileage on a single charge. It also takes into account L3 and higher levels of autopilot. In a nutshell, the eS platform is more like a traditional "skateboard" solution designed for special purpose vehicles (Purpose Built Vehicles), mainly to provide modular and customized solutions for enterprises in the areas of logistics, carpooling and last kilometer distribution.
Hyundai said that IMA technology will bring a new level of standardization and modularization to the design and assembly of electric vehicles. By standardizing parts that currently vary from car to car, such as batteries and motors, HMG says it can simplify the production process and expand the product lineup.
The same thinking process is also applicable to the field of vehicle controller. In addition, vehicle controller upgrades need to be upgraded separately for each controller's software system, and through integrated controllers, future electric vehicles will be more efficient and convenient, because low-level components can be directly managed by advanced controllers, thus reducing the total number of controllers required.
Another element is Hyundai's connected Automotive operating system (ccOS), which will be applied to all controllers in the vehicle to maximize hardware performance with top computing power.
It is worth mentioning that Hyundai also said that it is currently working with NVIDIA and is preparing to apply the optimized ccOS to the NVIDIA DRIVE platform.
Of course, NVIDIA may or may not work with Hyundai's third-generation integrated controller, but when that day does come, NVIDIA says it will be the basis for mass production of level 3 self-driving cars and the possibility of eventually commercializing L4 and 5 self-driving capabilities.
