A team of students from the University of Stuttgart in Germany have set a new world record for electric car acceleration using cars they designed and built, Autocar reported. It takes only 1.461 seconds to go from zero to 60 miles per hour, compared with the previous record of 1.513 seconds, which was set by the Swiss team in 2016. The acceleration of 1.461 seconds is 0.5 seconds faster than Pininfarina Battista, 0.6 seconds faster than Ariel Hipercar, 0.9 seconds faster than Tesla Model S Plaid, and a full second faster than Bugatti Kailong's 2.4s.

To set this record, it can be guessed that the car will be very light, and it does, weighing less than 320 pounds (about 145 kilograms). Surprisingly, the car's power is not very strong, dual motors generate only about 240 horsepower, the car is equipped with four-wheel drive and custom battery pack.

CTOnews.com learned that the car's peak acceleration is said to be 2g, about the same as the acceleration felt by astronauts when they re-entered the Earth's atmosphere.
