CTOnews.com, October 12, Qualcomm announced the launch of the latest flagship XR platform, the first generation Snapdragon XR2 + platform, to help the next generation of hybrid reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) terminals to improve power consumption and heat dissipation performance. Compared with the Snapdragon XR2 platform, Snapdragon XR2 + achieves a 50% lifespan boost and 30% heat dissipation boost, thus enabling a richer immersive metasverse experience in a smaller and thinner device form factor.

At present, Snapdragon XR platform has enabled more than 60 XR terminals around the world. Several OEM manufacturers have planned to launch commercial terminals with Snapdragon XR2 + platform, which are expected to be available by the end of 2022. CTOnews.com has learned that Meta Quest Pro is the first product to use Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1.

The features of the first generation Snapdragon XR2 + platform are as follows:

New platform suite: the new platform configuration can support better heat dissipation, resulting in significant performance improvements, with a 50% improvement in battery life performance and a 30% improvement in thermal performance. This enables the platform to support more concurrent multimedia processing and perception technologies to enable full sensory interaction, such as creating lifelike expressions in meta-universe, without sacrificing terminal shape design.

Vivid MR experience: the Snapdragon XR2 + platform introduces a new image processing pipeline that enables a latency of less than 10 milliseconds, enabling an excellent full-color video perspective MR experience. The platform supports parallel perception technology, including head, gesture and handle tracking, 3D reconstruction and low-delay video perspective. Seven-way parallel cameras support the integration of real and virtual worlds into a full range of MR experiences through video perspective, precise motion tracking, and automatic indoor map construction. At the same time, the high pixel density of the platform can support PC-level virtual landscape, and can support multiple sensors and cameras at the same time, giving more realistic virtual characters nuanced facial expressions.

Several OEM manufacturers have planned to launch commercial terminals equipped with Snapdragon XR2 + platform.
