CTOnews.com October 11, the European Commission announced the establishment of Hexa-X-II, which is the second phase of the European 6G flagship project. Nokia, which led the first Hexa-X project, will be responsible for the Hexa-X-II project. Hexa-X focuses on a common vision of European 6G and possible use cases and technology enablers, while Hexa-X-II will create a pre-standardized platform and overall system view.

Nokia leads Hexa-X and Hexa-X-II, demonstrating its commitment to European cooperation, as it will work with major ecosystem players to shape the future of communications.

Nokia recently announced that it will lead the Hexa-X-II project, and the new phase will expand the list of Hexa-X partners to 44 organizations whose task is to create pre-standardized platforms and system views, which will be the basis for many investments in 6G standardization in the future.

The Hexa-X-II project has been funded by the European Commission as part of the call of the Joint Project on Intelligent Networks and Services (SNS-JU). This is an important step in bringing together Europe's major industry stakeholders. The goal of Hexa-X and Hexa-X-II is to make Europe a leader in 6G.

Hexa-X-II represents the entire value chain of future connectivity solutions. Its members range from network providers and communications service providers to vertical industries and technology providers, as well as the most famous communications research institutions in Europe.

Supported by Hexa-X innovations, the Hexa-X-II Alliance will strive to overcome the following challenges:

Sustainability: Hexa-X-II will study technologies that help achieve a zero carbon footprint and limit energy and material consumption.

Inclusiveness: Hexa-X-II aims to provide connectivity for people in developing countries and poor members of developed societies.

Credibility: Hexa-X-II will ensure the transparency, security and privacy of the data as well as the stability of the network.

As part of the announcement, Ericsson served as the technical manager of Hexa-X-II. Orange, TIM SpA, University of Dresden, University of Oulu, IMEC and Atos will help coordinate work packages such as radio evolution and innovation, future devices and flexible infrastructure, intelligent network management and value, and needs and ecosystems.

CTOnews.com learned that in addition to Hexa-X-II and Hexa-X, Nokia also led the German 6G Lighthouse project 6G-ANNA and played an important role in building a joint venture of intelligent networks and services in Horizon Europe.

The Hexa-X-II project aims to start work on January 1, 2023 and is scheduled to last for two and a half years.
