CTOnews.com, Oct. 11, India's 5G download speed has hit 500Mbps on the test network. In Delhi, Jio performs better than Airtel, the former at 598.58Mbps and the latter at 197.98Mbps. When the network is widely used, India's 5G speed is likely to decline sharply.

5G is now commercially available in parts of India and is expected to be fully rolled out by 2024. Airtel and Jio are expanding their networks across the country, and experts point out that India's 5G speed will be comparable to that of professional computers. CTOnews.com learned that according to the latest data from the Internet test Ookla, among Airtel and Jio, the latter was pointed out to have the fastest speed, 598.58Mbps, while competitor Airtel had 197.98Mbps in Delhi.

The analysis shows that telecom operators have been testing the network before its launch on October 1, with 5G speeds between 16.27Mbps and 809.94Mbps. This shows that telecom companies are recalibrating their networks.

Ookla brings a new report on India's 5G data speed. According to the analysis, the speed of the Jio network is 598.58Mbps, while the speed of Airtel in Delhi is 197.98Mbps. Ookla recorded 5G download speeds in four cities since June 2022, including Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai and Varanasi. Airtel lags behind Jio in popular cities such as Mumbai, with download speed of 271.07Mbps, while the latter is faster, 515.38Mbps.

In Calcutta, however, the two telecoms networks differ most in speed. The median download speed of Airtel is 33.83Mbps, while the median download speed of Jio is much faster, which is 482.02Mbps. "We expect these speeds to be more stable as these networks enter the commercial phase," said Sylwia Kechiche, chief industry analyst at Ookla Enterprise.

In Varanasi, the gap between Jio and Airtel is even smaller. Airtel has achieved 5G download speed for 516.57Mbps and 485.22Mbps since June 2022. "these new 5G results show that 5G speed is much better than the existing networks in India," Kechiche said.

Ookla analysis shows that the 5G performance of Jio depends on the spectrum band it uses. The performance of C-band (nasty 78) is between the download speed of 606.53Mbps and 875.26Mbps. On the other hand, the download speed of the 5G network using the lower 700MHz band is lower than that of 100Mbps, and the range is between 78.69Mbps and 95.13Mbps. According to the fact that Ookla,Airtel only uses its C-band spectrum when deploying 5G, the speed from 365.48Mbps to 716.85Mbps is realized.

Ookla claims that Jio's network has seen the largest increase in 5G-capable devices over the past year (67.4%), followed by Airtel (61.6%) and Vodafone Idea (56%).
