Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com October 11 news, market analyst Canalys released a report that the global PC market suffered a sharp decline in demand in the third quarter of 2022. Companies are spending more cautiously on IT, with weakness in the consumer and education markets intensifying, with total shipments of desktops and laptops falling 18 per cent to 69.4 million. Adverse macroeconomic and industry factors, including high inflation, rising interest rates and large channel inventories, have weakened the PC market and are likely to continue into 2023. Laptop shipments were the most affected, falling 19 per cent year-on-year to 54.7 million units. Due to less reliance on consumer spending, desktop shipments were relatively stable, totaling 14.7 million units, down 11 per cent from a year earlier.

CTOnews.com learned that Lenovo remained a leader in the global PC market, but shipments fell 16 per cent year-on-year to 16.9 million units. Hewlett-Packard suffered the biggest decline among the top five manufacturers for two consecutive quarters, with shipments of 12.7 million units, down 28% from a year earlier. Shipments from Lenovo and Hewlett-Packard were both the lowest since the outbreak in the first quarter of 2020. Dell, which ranked third, also saw a sharp decline, with shipments of nearly 12 million units, a drop of 21%. Apple outperformed its competitors by fulfilling second-quarter orders delayed by supply disruptions in China and launching a new M2 Macbook. It ranks fourth with 8 million units shipped, up 2 per cent year-on-year. Asustek ranked in the top five with shipments of 5.5 million units, down 8 per cent from a year earlier.

Ishan Dutt, a senior analyst at Canalys, said that despite the current adverse environment, the importance of personal computers in supporting new ways of working and helping to achieve the goal of digital transformation should not be underestimated. The old equipment of the customer base also needs to be replaced, and the market is expected to recover in the second half of 2023.
