CTOnews.com October 11 news, MediaTek today released a new mid-range chip Tianji 1080. Compared with the previous generation, Tianji 1080 brings higher performance, better efficiency and stronger camera ability.

MediaTek said: "the Tianji 1080 continues the performance and energy efficiency advantages of the MediaTek Tianji 5G mobile platform, providing a variety of advanced features to better meet users' expectations for 5G smartphones. MediaTek's latest Tianji 1080 further enhances the performance in terms of performance, imaging, display and other aspects, helping terminals quickly launch to the mass market."

The most important change here is the camera ability of the chip. The new Tianji 1080 can process image data from sensors through Imagiq ISP, up to 200MP pixels (formerly 108MP) and supports four cameras. Tianji 1080 also integrates a hardware-level 4K HDR video recording engine to provide better dim light shooting.

The performance of this 5G chip is slightly updated, using eight-core CPU:2 ARM Cortex-A78 cores at a frequency as high as 2.6GHz. 6 ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency as high as 2GHz. GPU is still Mali-G68, providing a smoother experience in games, streaming, web browsing and other applications. LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 enclosures are also supported. Tianji 1080 is still manufactured by TSMC 6nm process, which has good energy efficiency performance and can extend the battery life of smartphones. In terms of performance, the benchmark score may not jump significantly compared with devices running previous generations of chips.

The Tian Ji 1080 is equipped with the MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 game engine, which provides a high-performance, low-latency gaming experience, and the platform energy efficiency can be further optimized with the third-generation APU of MediaTek. In addition, the Tianji 1080 supports Sub-6GHz 5G full-band high-speed networks and Wi-Fi 6 connections.

Smartphones using the MediaTek Tianji 1080 5G mobile platform are expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2022.
