On Oct. 11, it was reported that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, urged employees to hold online meetings with virtual reality headsets, causing many employees to rush to buy devices.

Meta's Horizon Workrooms app was launched in 2021, allowing users to communicate in virtual images in a virtual workspace. Zuckerberg asked employees to hold meetings through the Horizon Workrooms app this year, according to a person familiar with the matter. But access to Horizon Workrooms applications requires owning Meta Quest 2, a virtual reality headset developed by the company.

Sources said that many Meta employees had not previously used virtual reality headsets and had no time to set them up. After Zuckerberg's request, the employees had to buy equipment and register before their supervisors found out.

In August, Meta raised the price of Quest 2 from $299 to $399. Quest 2 was released in 2020 and was originally called Oculus Quest 2, but Meta changed its name to Meta Quest 2 in 2021.

Meta didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Meta spokesman Andy Stone said in a statement that it was easy to be "skeptical about new technologies", but it was harder to develop new technologies.

"this is what we are doing because we firmly believe that meta-universe is the direction of future computing," Stone said.

Two Meta employees said that some employees within the company called the important metacosmos project "coax Mark happy", abbreviated as "MMH (Make Mark Happy)."

According to the internal memo, Meta employees do not have a high utilization rate of Horizon Worlds metaspace applications.

According to reports, VishalShah, vice president of metacosmos at Meta, wrote in a memo: "Why can't we like the product we developed and keep using it?"the simple fact is, if we don't like it, how can we expect our users to like it?"
