Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, October 10 (Xinhua)-- Game company 2K confirmed that a recent security breach resulted in the theft and sale of customers' personal information. In late September, the company said its customer support services had been compromised and advised players who might be affected to change their passwords in a timely manner.
"We are aware that an unauthorized third party has illegally accessed one of our suppliers' credentials on the help desk platform, which 2K uses to support our customers," 2K said in a previous tweet. "the unauthorized party sent messages containing malicious links to some players. Please do not open any email or click on any links you receive from the 2K game support account."
On October 6th, 2K began to contact customers whose information has been stolen and may be sold. The company told users: "unauthorized third parties have accessed and copied some of the personal data you recorded when you contacted us for support, including your email address, help desk ID number, player number and console details. There is no indication that any financial information or passwords you hold in our system have been compromised."
2K added: "however, out of caution, we encourage all players to protect their accounts by resetting passwords and enabling multi-factor authentication." In addition, links sent to some players may contain malware and disclose data stored on their devices, including passwords. 2K advises players who click on the link to "restart your computer immediately, use network security best practices, reset all passwords, use MFA (if available), and use newer antivirus software."
CTOnews.com learned that the attack seemed to have nothing to do with the hacking that leaked the "GTA 6" video. 2K Games and Rockstar have the same parent company Take-Two, but the systems attacked are not related, and they are different types of attacks with different targets. Rockstar's hackers target developers and their game information, while the attack on 2K support is to use companies to reach their customers.
"2K issued a notice saying that the service website was attacked by hackers, warning players not to open relevant emails."
