CTOnews.com, October 10 (Xinhua)-- A Boeing 737 MAX belonging to Mongolia Airlines (MIAT) landed in Guangzhou, China this morning, the first commercial flight of the Boeing 737 MAX to return to China after a nearly four-year ban.

A Mongolian Airlines flight from Ulaanbaatar landed in Guangzhou at 08:18 Beijing time on Monday, according to FlightRadar24, a flight tracking website. According to the flight plans announced by Mongolia Airlines, its 737 MAX will fly this route again on October 17 and October 24.

Last month, Boeing agreed to pay $200m to settle an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) into allegations that the company and its former chief executive made misleading statements about the safety risks of two 737 MAX aircraft after the crash.

CTOnews.com learned that the Boeing 737 Max was banned from flying by many countries around the world after two air crashes in 2018 and 2019, killing 346 people. It was only allowed to resume flights by some countries this year, and today the plane is flying back to China for the first time.

In September this year, the Civil Aviation Administration and Boeing organized a special meeting on 737MAX aircraft operation review (that is, AEG review) in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, and will release the second revision of the "Boeing 737 Series aircraft Review report" after Boeing has resolved its questions, on behalf of CAAC to complete the whole process of resuming the introduction of 737MAX new aircraft.

Of course, up to now, 737MAX has not been formally approved by the Civil Aviation Administration. With the follow-up to the Boeing 737 MAX getting close to all the approvals needed for a return flight in China, China will also be the last major aviation market to allow the aircraft to fly back.

After Boeing's 737MAX was approved for airworthiness in China in December 2021, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said that domestic airlines would have to complete aircraft modification, parking recovery and pilot training, which had been approved for supplementary operation. This year, the 737MAX of Air China, China Southern Airlines, HNA and Xiamen Airlines have all conducted test flights.
