Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen zerodert for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com In June of this year, Linus, the father of Linux, incorporated most of the code of the LoongArch CPU architecture into Linux 5.19, including the final system call interface and all core functions.

In August, Linux 6.0 added more support for the LoongArch architecture, such as PCI, stack unloader and stack trace, optimizing getcpu () with vDSO, bug fixes, build bug fixes, and updating its default kernel profile.

Two months later, the latest Linux 6.1 will bring EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) boot support to the LoongArch architecture. The latter is used to define the software interface between the PC operating system and the system firmware. It is responsible for power-on self-test (POST), contacting the operating system, and providing the interface between the operating system and hardware. You should see it when installing the system.

CTOnews.com learned that UEFI Forum released UEFI 2.10 and ACPI 6.5 specifications on August 29, which expand support for new processor types, memory interfaces and platform types, while enabling cryptographic agility in post-quantum system security, and adding support for LoongArch and RISC-V processor architectures. Linux will follow this specification to bring official support to LoongArch.

After Linux 6.1 supports EFI boot for Loong Arch, there will be some cleanup of Linux EFI code and preparation for future use of EFI code to provide confidential computing support. The commit also includes generic compressed boot support and various other improvements, the full list of which can be viewed here.

Currently, LoongArch architecture has been supported by Linux, GO language, GCC compiler. In addition, the SMBIOS, UEFI 2.10 and ACPI 6.5 specifications already support the LoongArch architecture.
