CTOnews.com October 10 News Doom is one of the games often seen running on the most exotic hardware and software. People ported the game to refrigerators, calculators (powered by potatoes), pregnancy tests, MacBook Touch Bars, and even Doom itself. An Internet user is porting Doom to another unexpected program: Windows Notepad.

YouTube blogger Samperson (Sam Chiet) was able to run Doom at 60 frames per second using ASCII graphics as a rendering engine in Notepad. The blogger claimed that the video was not accelerated, that he had zeroed in on Notepad, and that Doom was completely playable. He even plans to make a notepad version of Doom available to the public in the coming days.

Sam Chiet is a game developer and an "experiment creator" who loves tinkering with old systems and finding ways to breathe new life into them. Back in September, he detailed work to revive Xbox's defunct Kinect technology.

CTOnews.com has learned that Kinect is Microsoft's motion-capture sensor for its Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles. Although Microsoft invested heavily in Kinect, it was not reliable enough and did not fit enough games to force Microsoft to stop supporting the device. Now, the sensors that power Kinect have been ported to Microsoft HoloLens devices.
