CTOnews.com, Oct. 9, CounterPoint Research released a research report on the refurbished mobile phone market.

For now, Apple is still the market leader in refurbished machines. According to reports, the best-selling products in the second-hand / refurbished market in the United States include iPhone 8 series, iPhone 11 series and iPhone XR series. But analysts also point out that since the launch of the iPhone 14 series, the prices of the three 4G iPhone models have fallen by an average of 22%, while the price of the refurbished iPhone 13 series has risen by an average of 11%.

They believe that although the price of the old iPhone is falling, demand for the new iPhone Pro has been strong since the launch of the new iPhone 14 series.

Counterpoint says this is partly due to the development of 5G. Old phones that do not support 5G are getting cheaper, while refurbished 5G phones are becoming more and more popular. The report points out that those who buy refurbished 5G iPhone phones are using the money they saved by buying "refurbishment" to buy more expensive 5G packages.

The analysis shows that the average price of refurbished iPhone 8 series phones (ASP) has dropped by 38% during this period. The average price of the refurbished iPhone X series has dropped by 23%, and the average price of refurbished iPhone 11 has dropped by 15%.

Since the launch of iPhone 14, the price of the iPhone 12 series, the first iPhone model that supports 5G, has fallen by about 10%, while the refurbished phone of the iPhone 13 series has actually increased by 11% because users think the iPhone 13 is more cost-effective.

Counterpoint calculates that the average replacement time for US consumers is three years and seven months, a longer period of time to limit the ownership of a phone than in previous years.

They concluded that as the global economy weakens, consumers may want to save money by buying refurbished iPhone 13 series rather than iPhone 14 models. CTOnews.com warns that the basic version of Apple iPhone 14 is not a big upgrade compared to the iPhone 13 series.
