According to news in the morning of October 10, Beijing time, e-commerce giant Amazon said on Monday that it would invest more than 1 billion euros over the next five years to build electric vans, truck pairs and low-emission package centers across Europe. in order to accelerate the achievement of its carbon neutral net zero goal.

The investment is also aimed at stimulating innovation across the transport industry and encouraging more public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, the company said. Amazon said the investment would increase its fleet of electric trucks in Europe from 3000 to more than 10, 000 by 2025.

Amazon did not disclose the proportion of electric vehicles currently in its last mile delivery fleet in Europe, but it said the 3000 zero-emission trucks carried more than 100m parcels in 2021.

Amazon also said it hopes to buy more than 1500 electric heavy trucks in the next few years to transport goods to parcel centers.

Although large logistics companies such as package delivery companies UPS.N and FedEx have pledged to buy a large number of zero-emission electric vans and trucks, there are still not many vehicles available on the market.

A number of start-ups are racing to bring electric vans or trucks to market and face increasing competition from traditional manufacturers such as General Motors and Ford.

Amazon's largest order for electric vans is 100000 vehicles ordered from Rivian Automotive, which are expected to be delivered by 2025.

Amazon said that in addition to electric cars, it will invest thousands of charging piles in facilities across Europe.

The company said it would also make another investment to double its network of "micro-mobile" centres in Europe from more than 20 cities today. The company is currently using these facilities to provide new delivery methods, such as electric freight bicycles or on foot, to reduce emissions.

Amazon's plan is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040.
