On the basis of closing loopholes such as locality, measurement independence and entanglement source independence, the research team used entanglement switching optical quantum network to test quantum mechanics in real form, thus verifying the necessity of complex number in quantum mechanics with experimental accuracy exceeding 5.3 standard deviations.

Complex numbers consist mainly of imaginary numbers and real numbers. The term imaginary number was coined by the famous mathematician Descartes, and later Schrödinger, an Austrian theoretical physicist and one of the founders of quantum mechanics, introduced imaginary numbers into the wave equation to describe the quantum behavior of particles.

As early as September 5,2019, Professor Wang Xiangbin, Professor Zhang Qiang and Liu Yang of Jinan Institute of Quantum Technology have cooperated with Professor Pan Jianwei Group of University of Science and Technology of China to realize dual-field quantum key distribution experiment in optical fiber of 300km real environment. This achievement not only completely realizes 300 kilometers of dual-field quantum key distribution, but also verifies the feasibility of long-distance quantum key distribution over 700 kilometers of optical fiber, becoming the basis of a new generation of long-distance intercity quantum key distribution.
