Hu Wenhui, deputy director of the State intellectual property Office, said that from 2012 to 2021, the State intellectual property Office granted 3.953 million invention patents, an average annual growth rate of 13.8 percent, and a total of 35.563 million registered trademarks, with an average annual growth rate of 25.5 percent.

As of September 2022, the valid number of invention patents in China was 4.081 million, of which 3.154 million were valid (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), 41.523 million valid trademarks were registered, and 2495 geographical indication products were approved. 6992 geographical indications have been approved to be registered as collective trademarks and certification trademarks, and 59000 integrated circuit layout-design licenses have been issued.

According to reports, China's ranking in the latest Global Innovation Index report released by the World intellectual property Organization rose from 34th in 2012 to 11th in 2022, rising steadily for 10 consecutive years, ranking first among middle-and high-income economies. Among the five major scientific and technological clusters in the world, China has two seats exclusively, and scientific and technological innovation is more active.
