A spokesman for Lufthansa said: "the baggage tracker is a portable electronic device, so it has to comply with the regulations issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization for the transport of dangerous goods by aircraft. therefore, because of its transmission function, if the tracker is placed in checked baggage, it must be used in a similar manner to mobile phones, laptops, tablets, etc."

Air tracking hardware like Apple's AirTag can be a lifesaver for passengers to avoid losing their luggage.

A spokesman for Berlin's Brandenburg Airport told Watson in a statement that the airport does not prohibit trackers such as AirTags and does not usually take them out of their luggage.

However, the spokesman added that the airport complied with the guidelines of each of its airlines and recommended that active trackers found in luggage destined for Lufthansa could be removed.
