The issue is related to a graphics driver bug that causes unwanted power sequencing delays in the display itself, which could cause physical damage to LCD panels on Intel-based laptops. According to user reports, this issue can cause a white flash to appear on the screen.

CTOnews.com understands that software updates that cause physical damage to computer components are rare, and this issue affects Intel-based notebooks where all screens are connected directly to the console, meaning that all Nvidia Optimus notebooks, as well as some Intel + Radeon combo notebooks (although these notebooks are rare), are at risk because the console is driving the main display even when the standalone GPU is active.

The only exceptions are laptops where Nvidia Optimus can be disabled completely, or where the display is not connected to Intel Display at all, which is rare. Thankfully, this issue only affects Intel display-based notebooks, meaning that all AMD CPU or APU-based notebooks are unaffected.

Fortunately, the Linux community has released a new 5.19.13 kernel that reverts all the problems found in the graphics driver to previous kernel updates, but most users will have to wait for the kernel update to come out of their Linux distribution.
