This study is inspired by the fact that the marine microbial ecosystem is a natural solar energy biotransformation system, and according to its basic characteristics composed of primary producers, primary decomposers and end consumers, a four-bacteria microbiome composed of primary producers (cyanobacteria), primary decomposers (E. coli) and end consumers (Shiva and Bacillus) was designed and constructed. It is proved that the four-bacteria microbiome is the best in terms of internal resistance, maximum power density and stability of the system, indicating that maintaining a complete three-level ecological structure can achieve efficient biological photoelectric conversion.

According to reports, the biological solar cell simulates the basic physical and ecological structure of marine cells, but the time and space scale is significantly compressed, so it can be regarded as a miniaturized bionic marine battery. Biomimetic marine cells improve the biological photovoltaic efficiency to a new level, which provides a new path for the development of efficient and stable biological solar cells, and further shows the biotechnology potential of synthetic ecology.
