CTOnews.com, Oct. 8 (Xinhua)-- PepsiCo confirmed on Friday that it will start receiving half-cards from Tesla on December 1, becoming the first company to receive orders for the long-delayed electric car.

The trucks will be used at the Frito-Lay plant in Modesto, Calif., and the Pepsi beverage plant in Sacramento, Pepsi said in a statement. PepsiCo has been working to reduce fuel costs and emissions and ordered 100 trucks in 2017, five years before delivery began.

American companies have promised to take action to reduce the impact on the environment. Transport accounts for about 10 per cent of PepsiCo's greenhouse gas emissions, according to Ramon Laguarta, PepsiCo's chief executive.

In addition to PepsiCo, other companies, including UPS, Wal-Mart, JB Hunt Transport Services and food service distributor Sysco Corp, have also booked Tesla's Semi truck.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the start of production of Semi trucks on Twitter late Thursday, saying the vehicles had a range of 500miles and were "very fun to drive", CTOnews.com reported.

Mr Musk initially said the trucks would be put into production in 2019, but had been delayed for years due to shortages of parts and other reasons.

Musk: Tesla will deliver Semi electric trucks to Pepsi on December 1.
