CTOnews.com, Oct. 7-Toyota said on Friday that 296019 pieces of customer information, including email addresses and customer numbers, were suspected to have been leaked in its T-Connect service.

According to reports, T-Connect is a remote information service that connects vehicles through the Internet, and the affected customers are individual users who have registered for the service website using their e-mail addresses since July 2017.

The company said that from December 2017 to September 15 this year, the contractor who developed the T-Connect website accidentally uploaded part of the source code with a common configuration.

Toyota said in a statement that according to the investigation of safety experts, it was not possible to confirm the existence of third-party access from the access history of the data server where the information was stored. At the same time, the company added that the possibility of third-party visits could not be completely ruled out.

However, Toyota said sensitive personal information such as users' names, phone numbers or credit card information could not be disclosed.

Toyota did not confirm whether the information had been abused, but warned that users could receive spam, phishing and unsolicited emails.
