CTOnews.com, October 7 (Xinhua) it's no secret that Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards require some high-power power supplies, but Nvidia's AIB partners' official recommendations for power supplies for their various RTX 4090 graphics cards vary widely.

Some AIB manufacturers follow the standard power recommendation of Nvidia, which only needs 850W, but a considerable number of AIB manufacturers list 1000W as the recommended power supply power, and some manufacturers even have the recommended standard of 1200W. Here are the recommended power supplies for each AIB vendor:

For its ROG Strix graphics card, Asustek recommends using 1000W PSU power. Asustek recommends this because it assumes that users will overclock CPU and GPU at the same time. Gigabyte's Aorus Master and Sotai's AMP Extreme / Trinity RTX 4090 graphics cards also have the same 1000W PSU recommendation.

For MSI, PNY, Yingchi and Yingzhong's flagship 4090 GPU, all of these graphics cards recommend using the 850W power supply officially recommended by Nvidia. But Palit recommends that its RTX 4090 GameRock graphics cards use up to 1200W PSU, which is by far the most stringent requirement among video card manufacturers, knowing that four-way GTX 980Ti graphics cards needed such a powerful power supply.

Palit did not give a reason for recommending a 1200W power supply, possibly because the company felt that a power-consuming CPU, such as the Core i9-12900K, might need 1200W in the event of severe overclocking.

This wide range of power recommendations may confuse consumers, and using the wrong PSU may cause problems and, in the worst case, may even cause the system to fail to function properly.

CTOnews.com learned that most of the RTX 4090 models mentioned above are flagship versions of RTX 4090 SKU. Fortunately, almost all Nvidia AIB partners have a "normal" RTX 4090 SKU, which uses Nvidia's reference power requirements, and only 850W PSU is recommended.

The recommended power supply is not suitable for everyone, because everyone's computer configuration, overclocking and other conditions may be different. In addition, the reason why manufacturers sometimes recommend very high-power power supplies may also be to reduce after-sales service considerations.
