CTOnews.com, Oct. 6 (Xinhua)-- the Surface Duo is Microsoft's first Android smartphone and looks a lot like a cut Surface Neo device. Microsoft had planned to launch the Windows 10X dual-screen device, but it was regrettable that the project and its operating system were cancelled due to numerous problems.

The original Surface Duo can now run the Windows 11 ARM system using an unofficial crack installation and turn the device into a small dual-screen computer, but unfortunately, Surface Duo is not yet able to run Windows 11 perfectly.

According to Windows Central, Microsoft is preparing to upgrade its Android smartphone to Android 12L, which will be updated in the coming weeks.

With the Surface Duo life cycle getting shorter and shorter, this model is now less than the original price of 1/4, I believe many users will try to play with it.

Windows Central also revealed some information about upcoming updates. It is said that the Android 12L system of the original Surface Duo and the second generation Surface Duo will introduce some designs inspired by Windows 11, such as interaction designs inspired by Win11 Fluent designs, which you may see in notification centers, event feeds, and so on.

Microsoft had previously adhered to Google's design guidelines, and the Surface system was more or less similar to the existing Android. Now, it seems, the company wants to get out of this model and focus on making Surface Duo smartphones "an extension of Windows personal computers" or "your phone".

Of course, this idea requires a design overhaul similar to Windows 11, including quick setup buttons similar to Windows 11, icons in settings, menus, and so on. It is said that users can trigger Win11-like menus through buttons on Surface Slim Pen 2.

Another Windows 11-inspired feature is the well-known system emphasis color. You can choose the theme color in the wallpaper and apply it to different parts of the user interface.

Windows Central also claims that Microsoft is also developing a "Duo Connect" model, which is the spiritual successor to the long-extinct Continum on Windows 10 Mobile.

According to reports, Duo Connect allows enterprise customers to connect their smartphones to larger displays and use them with Windows 365 services. It is not clear whether Duo Connect will be part of Android 12L or whether it will appear in future updates.

For now, Android 12L will be available for first-and second-generation Surface Duo, and it is expected to push updates later this month or early November.

CTOnews.com has reported that Surface Duo can currently run Windows 11 (unofficially), and its new brother has achieved this goal with the help of the recently released UEFI.
