CTOnews.com, October 6, according to the Hong Kong Economic Daily, citing Famitsu data, Nintendo Switch sold 495000 models in Japan in September (August 29 to September 25), an increase of 131% over the same period last year. Monthly sales exceeded the 300000 mark for three consecutive months, dominating the Japanese game console market for 55 months in a row.

However, sales of Sony's PlayStation 5 series models in Japan fell 17 per cent year-on-year to 64000 units during the period, and the price increase seems to have had an impact on PS5 sales.

Sony has raised the price of the PS5 in Japan since September 15, the report said. Among them, the PS5 CD-ROM version sells for 60478 yen (about 2969 yuan) and the digital version sells for 49478 yen (about 2429 yuan).

CTOnews.com learned that, unlike Sony, both Nintendo and Microsoft said they had no plans to increase prices. In September, Microsoft sold 32000 Xbox Series X / S units in Japan, up 175 per cent from a year earlier.

In the third quarter, sales of the Switch series in Japan rose 36 per cent year-on-year to 1.176 million, Xbox Series X / S rose 167 per cent to 102000 and PS5 rose 18 per cent to 252000.
