CTOnews.com, October 6 (Xinhua)-- according to a report from Japan, the total price of Apple's flagship iPhone 14 models is about 20% higher than that of iPhone 13, an all-time high.

According to Fomalhaut estimates, the total cost of parts for the iPhone 14 Pro Max is about $501 (about 3552 yuan), more than $60 more than the previous generation of iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Since the launch of the flagship iPhone "Max" model in 2018, the cost has fallen between $400 (about 2836 yuan) and $450 (about 3191 yuan), pushing up more than $60 this time, with the biggest increase in parts costs and total parts since 2018.

In terms of model pricing, the US market price of the smallest iPhone 14 Pro Max is the same as that of the equivalent model in 2018, remaining at $1099 (about 7792 yuan). The rise in the price of parts has not been passed on directly and has become the main reason for squeezing profits.

The report points out that the rising cost of the iPhone 14 Pro series is mainly related to A16 bionic chips. The chip costs $110, more than 2.4 times the price of the A15 chip on the iPhone 13 Pro Max last year. The A16 bionic uses the most advanced 4nm process, which is currently available only by TSMC and Samsung Electronics.

CTOnews.com learned that Fomalhaut said it highlighted Apple's commodity strategy of "not being able to distinguish by new features and having to use high-performance configurations to make a distinction".

In terms of other parts, the CMOS used in the iPhone 14 comes from Sony. Among the three rear cameras on the iPhone 14 Pro, the CMOS size of the main camera is 30% larger than before, and the price is about 50% more at $15. Due to the adoption of the new CMOS, the main camera element of the iPhone 14 Pro series has been increased to 48 million.

Samsung Electronics is used to disassemble the OLED panel; the baseband chip is from Qualcomm; and the power management chip (PMIC) is Apple's own product. In 2018, Apple bought the power management chip business of British chipmaker Dialog for $600 million (4.254 billion yuan).

In addition, the report said that of the total parts of iPhone 14 Pro Max, the United States accounted for 32.4%, South Korea 24.8%, Japan 10.9%, Taiwan 7.2%, Chinese mainland 3.8%, and other (unknown) 20.9%.

Of last year's total iPhone 13 Pro Max parts, the US accounted for 22.6 per cent, South Korea 30.4 per cent, Japan 14.5 per cent, Taiwan 8.4 per cent, Chinese mainland 4.5 per cent and other (unknown) 19.6 per cent.
