On Oct. 5, Amazon confirmed on Tuesday local time that it had suspended recruitment in its retail business.

Earlier reports quoted an internal notice from Amazon as saying that Amazon had asked HR recruiters to close all job postings for retail jobs in the next few days and advised them not to call job seekers for the time being.

Amazon spokesman Brad Grasser (Brad Glasser) said that there are still a large number of job openings throughout the company.

"We have many different businesses at different stages of development and will constantly adjust their recruitment strategies at different times," Glather said in a statement. "

In addition to Amazon, many companies have adjusted their hiring plans because of concerns about the global economy. Google, Apple and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, have announced that they will slow or temporarily suspend hiring. Companies also cut costs in a variety of ways to deal with possible disadvantages.

Retail remains Amazon's main source of revenue. Andy Jassy, Amazon's chief executive, is not only grappling with slowing growth in his core retail business, but is also moving quickly to rein in costs.

During the epidemic, as consumers did not go to brick-and-mortar stores, but flocked to online retailers, the retail business of the whole market grew rapidly. But by early 2022, consumer spending on e-commerce began to slow, and Amazon's first-quarter revenue growth was at its slowest pace since 2001.

Mr Jassi assured investors that he would focus on restoring "healthy profitability" after slowing retail growth and rising costs affected Amazon's profits. In recent months, Amazon has closed a number of facilities, cancelled plans for new facilities and delayed the opening of some new office buildings as a result of a glut of existing storage facilities caused by business expansion.

It was previously reported that Amazon had also closed almost all US customer service centers in order to save real estate costs.

Amazon, which had previously hired heavily, now faces the problem of having too many employees. Amazon cut 99000 jobs in the second quarter and now employs 1.52 million people.
