CTOnews.com, Oct. 4 (Xinhua)-- Apple has exported more than $1 billion of iPhone from India in the five months since April, according to people familiar with the matter.

Exports of iPhone phones made in India are mainly for Europe and the Middle East, the report added. Exports are forecast to reach US $2.5 billion in the 12 months to March 2023.

That is almost double India's exports of $1.3 billion worth of iPhone in the year to March 2022, according to people familiar with the matter.

At the end of September, Apple said iPhone makers were "very happy to produce iPhone 14 in India."

CTOnews.com learned that Apple first started producing iPhone, or iPhone SE, in India in 2017. In April, Apple announced that it had started producing iPhone 13 smartphones in India. Previously, some of the iPhone was assembled by Foxconn's local plant, while the other part was assembled by Wituang's factory.

In addition, Bloomberg has revealed that India's leading Tata Group is in talks with Wizuang Capital to set up a joint venture to assemble Apple's iPhone phones in India.
