CTOnews.com News Oct. 4 After years stuck at about "30 percent of the final expected size," Tesla finally plans to expand its Nevada super battery factory.

Tesla Nevada Super Factory is a battery production plant built in cooperation with Panasonic Corporation. It started production in the first quarter of 2016 and mainly produces energy storage batteries and vehicle-type power batteries. At present, Nevada Super Factory has 13 production lines, mainly producing cylindrical batteries such as 21700, and officially started trial production of 4680 batteries last year. According to the plan, the production capacity of the plant will increase by 10% to 39 GWh in 2022. According to Tesla's original plan, the factory will produce 105GWh of batteries per year, and 150GWh of batteries per year after completion, and it will become the largest building in the world.

However, the plant is currently only about 30 percent complete, and Tesla hasn't expanded the facility for years as both the automaker and Panasonic focus on optimizing current production capacity.

According to Electrek, Tesla is now finally expanding the footprint of the factory by expanding the building. According to sources familiar with the matter, the first is to expand the building's "C" area.

As shown above, the new building is expected to be used for cell manufacturing.

Tesla doesn't have a clear timeline for launching the construction project, but it is understood that construction will begin soon.

Currently, the building occupies "over 1.9 million square feet" but has "approximately 5.3 million square feet of operational space" because it has several floors.

CTOnews.com understands that Tesla previously planned to achieve full capacity production with existing production lines, and then expand the plant and production lines. Now Tesla is about to expand it, which seems to confirm that the current factory has achieved its goal of full capacity production.
