CTOnews.com, October 4, according to South Korea's Asia Daily, the territory of the South Korean smartphone market, which is regarded as the "home" of Samsung, is undergoing a new round of changes. Apple, which has been hovering below 20% of the market, is coming aggressively in the second half of the year, and its sense of market presence in South Korea has greatly increased.

On Oct. 4, iPhone's share of South Korea's smartphone market continued to grow, from 27.28% in June to 34.1% in September, according to Stat Counter, a web traffic statistics service. However, Samsung's market share has been declining, falling from 66.11% in June to 63.98% in July and 59.47% in August. The decline continued to expand in September, and the market share fell to 58.38%. This is the first time that Samsung's domestic market share has fallen below 60%.

CTOnews.com learned that Apple's market share in South Korea hovered below 20 per cent until 2020. Last year, Apple's market share in South Korea exceeded 20 per cent for the first time because LG Electronics announced the closure of its mobile phone business, but it is still not comparable to Samsung Electronics, which has maintained a market share of 60-70 per cent for several years.

Reported that at the beginning of this year, Samsung Game Optimization Service (GOS) artificially slowed down the speed of some of its devices caused controversy, Apple successively raised the subsidy for the purchase of the old iPhone series, driving iPhone's market share in South Korea to exceed 30% for the first time.

The industry predicts that Apple's market share is expected to increase further in the fourth quarter, driven by the launch of the iPhone 14 series. Apple has opened four Apple Store retail stores in South Korea.

Samsung has recently cut the ex-factory price of the Galaxy S21 series and increased the subsidy for the latest folding screen smartphone Galaxy Z Flip 4 by 100,000 won (about RMB495), in an attempt to consolidate its market advantage by playing a "price tag". Samsung's flagship Galaxy S23 series is expected to be released early next year, with a full Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and 25W wired fast charging.
