CTOnews.com, Oct. 4 (Xinhua)-- Research firm IDC predicts that shipments of folding screen phones will more than quadruple from 8.1 million in 2021 to 41.5 million by 2026. Falling prices and business use cases will drive the adoption of these devices, which will begin to replace regular phones and tablets because of their size, the report said. From 2022 to 2026, IDC expects folding screen devices to grow at a CAGR of 38.7%.

IDC analysis said

The recently launched Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4 will once again lead the entire category, and Samsung continues to be the standard for folding screen devices in the market. The new products launched by Samsung have brought about gradual but critical improvements compared with their predecessors. The success of these devices will be a strong indicator of how folding screen devices will develop and capture consumers in the future. Although price is still a pain point for consumers, given that the prices of most consumer goods will rise due to inflation in 2022, the starting price of $999 is likely to be accepted by consumers. "

Although folding screen devices will become more popular in the next few years, IDC does not expect them to become mainstream during this time. CTOnews.com learned that IDC data on folding screen devices and other smartphones showed that even in 2026, folding screen devices accounted for only 2.8 per cent of device shipments that year.

These reports will mean that the folding screen category remains a niche high-end area. However, whether manufacturers can reduce prices to a more affordable level for consumers will be the focus in the future.
